HOME OF THE BIG BOY double-decker legend.
Two juicy patties, secret red relish, crisp lettuce, hand-cut fries and a hand-spun shake. This is not fast food — this is American comfort heritage served on a checkered floor under neon light.

WE INVENTED THE double-decker BEFORE IT WAS COOL.
BigBoy.org is the digital home of America's most lovable burger boy. Born in 1936 in a tiny California hamburger stand, Bob Wian stacked two patties for a hungry late-night band — and created a national obsession.
Today BigBoy is more than a restaurant. It's Saturday family breakfasts, first dates over strawberry shakes, road-trip stops on Route 66, and that chubby cheeked boy in red checkered overalls holding a giant burger high above his head.
The accident
Bob stacks two patties for hungry musicians. Big Boy is born.
Neon boom
200+ drive-ins, carhops on roller skates, mascot goes national.
Comfort era
Breakfast bar, Slim Jim, Brawny Lad — family menu expands.
Retro future
Smash patties, plant-based Boy, app ordering, same soul.
FROM ONE GRILL TO American myth.

THE BOY WHO HELD A BURGER HIGH
The chubby mascot in checkered overalls was drawn from a real kid — Richard Woodruff, 1940. He swept floors for a burger. Artist Ben Washam sketched him. The rest is roadside Americana: fiberglass statues 7 feet tall guard every diner.

Big Boy inspired the Big Mac. Ray Kroc and Jim McLamore both visited Big Boy stands in the 50s and took notes. We take it as a compliment — imitation is the sincerest form of hunger.
